A community led initiative to save The Old Ferry Inn from being asset stripped, preserving centuries of heritage and keeping a vital community meeting space available to all.
We are a community group whose aim is to protect the Old Ferry Inn, Bodinnick from an assault of asset stripping by the current owners. We are objecting to proposals to split the centuries old Inn into a residential dwelling, leaving behind a tiny unviable business with no view, no outside space, limited appeal and less than a third of it's original size.
Nestled in the small village of Bodinnick, steeped in Cornish heritage and culture we will use the funds to help our voice to be heard and stop the asset stripping of a vital community asset. 💪
The Old Ferry Inn for many decades was a thriving business supporting generations of locals in jobs, providing 11 letting rooms for visitors and a public house for drinks and refreshments 365 days a year. Under new ownership it now sees seasonal opening, reduced operational hours and a limited food offer- 13hrs a week. As a community we would love to see the Old Ferry Inn thrive, welcoming walkers who have travelled far to walk the Saints Way and Hall Walk. The Old Ferry Inn was a destination venue and somewhere visitors to Fowey passed on their adventures. We are here to support the Inn and all it has to offer. The only way that can happen is by coming together to ensure the planning application is refused.
The Old Ferry Inn overlooks Daphne Du Maurier's home, Ferryside on the banks of the River Fowey. The image of the Old Ferry Inn has been used for decades to promote what Cornwall has to offer- heritage can not be replaced. The view is breathtaking and we want nothing more than to be able to enjoy this for the price of a pint and share it with the world 🌎
We are a 50+ strong collective in a small rural community volunteering their time and knowledge.
We have applied for The Old Ferry Inn to be listed as an Asset of Community Value which is the first step in protecting it's future. We hope that Cornwall Council can see the out pouring of support there is from the community for the business to survive and thrive. 💕
Refusal of the planning application is a must in our opinion and we hope that as a collective we have shown that asset stripping a community asset will have huge repercussions on the area.
